Background

Digital Academy is an ITE academy since October 2006 working under OFOK for community development NGO. OFOK was established in December 2005 with a mission of community capacity building, career development, and finding job opportunities. It is a self funded NGO working on a self sustainable model and seizing opportunities in the development initiatives taking place in Egypt.

OFOK NGO was established by 15 active members, they are all youth who have a passion for community development and who believe in specialization. Accordingly, they decide to specialize in ICT training especially in the Network domain. With the Egyptian Education Initiative (EEI) and the 1000 ITE academies project, they applied to become and ITE local academy and where qualified in October 2006.

Since they activated Digital Academy till today, in a 9 month period, they achieved the following:
* Recruited 2 other ITE local academies working under OFOK management (SAMA Academy & Ofok Academy) both active from March 2007
* Total number of certified instructors in the 3 academies is: 8
* Total number of labs is: 6
* Total number of graduates students is: 360 (40% of the students are females)
* They helped in the employment of 60% of the graduates
* 15 classes of ITE1 were delivered
* 10 classes of ITE2 were delivered
* Graduated the youngest ITE1 (which were all over the Press in Egypt and gave visibility to the NetAcad)
* Did 4 workshops in several IT educational institutions to recruit students
* Introduced the ITE to be a sponsored training course from the European funded training project in Egypt (IMC) this allowed a lot of people to take the course
* In July 2007, they were qualified as a CCNA academy and with 2 certified CCNA instructors
* Trained other nationalities studying in Egypt among them, 20 Iraqis, 3 Yemeni, 3 Palestinians, 2 Sudanese, 1 Saudi, 1 Iranian and 1 Canadian.

Initiatives that they did:
* Gender initiative (classes for female only)
* Kids initiative (classes only dedicated for kids age from 6 to 16)
* Deaf & mute initiative for 2 people

Projects that they did:
* The E employee project - between (Ofok & Government)
* The E Student project - between (Ofok & Schools)
* The E Citizen (Ofok NGO Team Work)

Digital academy candidate to the Cisco reward because of the following reasons:
* Graduated a large number of students in a short period of time (304 in 9 month) giving that they are an NGO not a governmental institution or a funded NGO
* Opened 6 lab locations in different areas
* Had an impact on the community by employing 60% of the graduates
* Gave visibility to NetAcad through the Youngest graduate

Ofok NGO (DIGITAL ACADEMY) have been operating as a Regional Cisco Networking Academy delivering the
> full range of Cisco programs since June 2006 and we have had great success in this regard. In a short time we have become the most productive of Cisco's 11,000 academies world-wide in terms of number
of students graduated. In this time, we have also graduated the youngest student to be certified in IT Essentials,
